BEARDEN: How old must you be to make bad decisions?

What is the definition of a Third World country? A place where no one has heard of James Hooker and Jordan Powers.

Let's identify the players. First, there is Hooker, 41, who is described variously as an exploiter, arrogant and self-serving. Powers, 18, is described as someone who doesn't have fully operational radars and filters. It is implied that if her radar had have been fully operational, she would have filtered out James Hooker.

Next, we have Tammie Mullins Powers, Jordan's mother, who is described as being thick-skinned with a wry grin. Tammie Powers is living with a man she isn't married to, just as her daughter Jordan is living with James Hooker.

INTERESTING NEWS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Day Care Center proposal by Councilman Joe Muratore"s Blue Ribbon Commission on the Homeless is an opportunity to create another non-profit for commission members who were part of SCAP.  These members include:

  • Steve Madison
  • Darryl Fair
  • David Wright
  • Mike Moridian
  • Frank Ploof

Alternate Members:

  • Councilman Joe Muratore
  • Ryan Swelha

Commission members were in the audience at the city council meeting,  "perched",  knowing the commission report advanced by David Wright to the Modesto City Council  would be met favorably.

As I entered the Council Chambers and heard Darryl Fair , the former chairman of SCAP giving the invocation, I had to wonder what was coming next.  Councilmember's did not ask who was to run another non-profit in order to make a profit from taxpayer money under the guise of "helping the homeless".

The tactics have changed.  The homeless are no longer the " filthy bearded people" who have to be driven from our parks.  Nor, are they accused of being criminals who burglarize and threaten people.  They are people who need help by rounding them up in one camp.

Muratore contends that the many churches who are helping the homeless are causing "damage" by feeding them in an "unorganized manner".

The churches go to where the homeless are instead of a central location.  In so doing they don't have to provide buses  Government can do a better job and his SCAP buddies, could get work if they were given more grants.

Oh Yes!  It's safe to run SCAP again because they have changed the name, and given the contact to Greengate Property Management.

Call Judy Sly at the Bee for the rest of the story or Director of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhoods Julie Hannon who says she does not know much about Greengate.
